Lurking Evil

"It kinda makes you wonder. Maybe we're missing something."

The dirty blond boy leaned back a bit on his perch, processing his friend's statement. While not overburdened with intellect, he did deduce correctly that htis was merely a prompt. He mustered his synapses for a forthright inquiry.

"Huh?"

"Don't you see them down there? A good quarter shambling about with their mouths open?" The boy with the long greasy locks waited for his fairer haired companion to answer in the affirmative before continuing. "Perhaps there's krill in the air. Invisible to you and me, but providing nourishment to those more aware of its existence. Perhaps we're the dumb ones for not knowing about it."

"You're not dumb, Tommy - I know that."

Tommy, rolling his eyes, traced the path of his point as it sailed over Ford's head.

"Thanks Ford."

The two sat in silence on their fifteen-foot perch as they watched the public pass before them. Tommy lit a cigarette.

"But seriously - is it some defect of musculature? Perhaps a silent mating signal? Jeez."

"Huh?"

"Oh, nevermind," he said as he dug his hands into his hoody's pockets. A cruel smile crept onto his face. He elbowed Ford. "Wanna make a buck?"

"Sure."

"Spit on that guy's head."

Glowing in the thought of making his friend happy, Ford promptly propelled his saliva toward the mark.

Tommy cackled madly.
